‘But my boy, you’re growing weary, sleepy thoughts about your head.

The story starts before then, in a world I once dwelled

‘It was a world of waste and wonder, of poverty and plenty
Back before we understood why hindsight’s 2020

‘You see the people people came up with companies to trade across all lands.
But they swelled and got bigger than we could ever have planned

‘We’d always had our wants, but now it got so quick.
You could have everything you dreamed of in a day and with a click.

‘We noticed families had stopped talking. That’s not to say they never spoke.
But the meaning must have melted and the work life balance broke.

‘And the children’s eyes got squarer and every toddler had a phone.
They filtered out the imperfections but amidst the noise, they felt alone.

‘And every day the sky grew thicker, til we couldn’t see the stars.
So we flew in planes to find them while down below we filled our cars.

‘We’d drive around all day in circles. We’d forgotten how to run.
We swapped the grass for tarmarc, shrunk the parks till there were none.

‘We filled the sea with pladtic cause our waste was never capped.
Until each day when you went fishing, you’d pull them out already wrapped.

‘And while we drank and smoked and gambled, our leaders taught us why,
It’s best to not upset the lobbies, more convenient to die.

‘But then in 2020, a new virus came our way.
The government reacted and told us all to hide away.

‘But while we were all hidden, amidst the fear and all the while,
The people dusted off their instincts, they remembered how to smile.

‘They started clapping to say thank you, and calling up their mums.

‘And while the the cars keys were gathering dust, they would look forward to their runs.

‘And with the sky less full of planes, the earth began to breathe.
And the beaches brought new wildlife that scattered off into the seas.

‘Some people started dancing, some were singing, some were baking.
We’d grown so used to bad news but some good news was in the making.

‘And so when we found the cure and were allowed to go outside,
We all preferred the world we found to the one we’d left behind.

‘Old habits became extinct, and they made way for the new.
And every simple act of kindness was now given its due.

‘But why did it take a virus to bring the people back together?’
Well, sometimes, you got to get sick, my boy, before you start feeling better.

👋 Hello dear friends,
I’ve had a month or two or three off, and needed it. Do I feel guilty ? Oh yes. I’ve jumped ship ! Wouldn’t blame you if you disowned me.
Seriously, I don’t feel proud that I’ve basically left you to it… during height of lockdown. No excuses… I just felt the need to have some quiet time.

In my years of being here, I’ve been as open and honest with you, as it’s possible for anyone to be. And some of you who know me well, will be aware I struggle with depression. Well I didn’t have a full blown attack, thank god… but I’ve cried buckets. Almost every day.

Mental health is of utmost importance to me, so I’ve never shied away from talking about it. Yes I’ve had friends who have ran in the opposite direction… but quite a few understand. And I’ve come to learn there are a few of you out there, that suffer yourself.

I’ve lost myself in the garden, these past weeks. Transforming it, so that it’s a haven for my husband and I, to sit and relax… and for family to come and go, in safe distance. Especially our frontline midwife heroine daughter… she lives on her own, in a flat and no outdoor space that’s solely hers.

I’m not in the over 70 or clinically sick category, but due to hubby’s past serious health problem, it’s been necessary for me to ‘shield’, along with him.
We’ve gone against advice and carried on with daily walks. Being out in the fresh air, has been our lifeline. As has the kindness of neighbours and family, with offers of help.

Now we’re told officially, we’re no longer vulnerable….. so we can go out and about :-).

Okay, that’s enough about that. My photo I’m sharing with you, is one of “Shropshire Union Canal”. This place to me, is ‘home’. We live yards away, and walk along side it each day. Passing a swan or two… waving at barges passing by. Swerving to avoid fellow walkers and bike riders. In all weathers… rain or shine. Heatwave or hurricane. Rarely has there been a happy medium !

It was taken Springtime, 2 years ago. And one of my firm favourites, because of the light and warmth. Nature had its best coat on, that day.
I did have my camera with me recently…… but didn’t feel much enthusiasm for clicking.

There are quite a few of you that I’ve not visited, for a while… I hope to put that right, in coming days/ weeks. I’ve done my best to keep an eye on things, and keep track a little on what’s been going on in Flickr land.

We’re not over the worst yet, not by a long chalk. This virus is going to be amongst us for many months (possibly years) to come.
So we’re having to learn a new way of living. A more patient/ simplistic/ and altogether more scaled down one. We almost are taking a step back in time !!! I wasn’t born in World war 2 era, but have revelled in hearing/ learning how they all coped. There are many similarities in today’s comradeship and community spirit, that warms the heart. Everyone pulling together, unselfishly. (Okay, apart from those front of queue in toilet roll fete 😂).

I will be around to visit you… especially those of you who leave a comment… as soon as I can. I’m hoping that you’ve come this far, unscathed and have managed to cope.

I’m all but recovered, I’m happy to say 🙂 … and the microwave I fell over, is still in working order :-))

I intend to continue to follow medical advice, and keep away from computer screens ~and for a few other reasons difficult to explain, will need a lot more time off.
