Computer Upgrade 2

Computer Upgrade 2

When I opened up the system case, man, it was so freaky dusty! When I blew it the first time, it created a heavy fog scene in my room!

I spent about 15 minutes just try to get all the dust out of the case and off the motherboard & video card. I really should clean this thing up more often from now.

NZXT 410 Spring Cleaning

NZXT 410 Spring Cleaning

Spring cleaning again but the its the main gaming PC. This dusting was a bit easier because this rig doesn’t run 24 hours a day like my server PC.

I wish this desktop had a filter in every intake or hole. I have purchased magnetic filters for the side and bottom intakes, but the front does not have any filters. It’s just a grill that intakes a bit of dust.

The Temps are pretty low with the system never going over 95 degrees Fahrenheit. The NZXT 410 is overall a great case for beginners like myself.

digital [1751]

digital [1751]

I was actually able to get alternate versions of this shot of my gaming PC’s interior in which there wasn’t a reflection on the glass panel, but I ended up liking the effect that the reflection caused. It gets kind of a neat double-exposure look.

Also, it looks like I should open it up this weekend and do a little dusting…

The remains

The remains

When my daughter’s 2006 MacBook Pro finally bit the dust, I took it apart to see what I might be able to salvage. Turns out the only part that is in any way compatible with any newer computers was the hard drive, so I put that in a USB enclosure and sold the rest for parts.

Mamiya 645 AFD with ZD digital back. 1/125" @ f/16, 80mm f/4 macro lens. ISO 50, WB flash.

Post in Capture One and Photoshop.

Strobist info: Photogenic PL1500SL @ 1/16 + 3/4 in 2′ x 3′ softbox behind and above the arrangement and aimed down at about 45º. This gives a direct reflection of the light in all the metal components, and because everything is on white paper, it fills in its own shadows with diffuse bounced light.

Now if only I had a tilt-shift lens…

086 / 365 [Project 365]

Under The Hood…

Beneath the user-friendly world of the keyboard, monitor and mouse lies and often hidden world of wonder and beauty… the heart of the machine. Although I built my current rig a number of years ago, it still runs smoothly and without issue given a healthy maintenance and backup schedule. Whilst some will tinker under the hood of their vehicle, changing fluids, checking connections and pressures, replacing belts and plugs, this holds no interest for me… my computer is my everything… it keeps me connected to the world.

Thought it’s interface I live a good chunk of my life… my photography comes to life through the digital darkroom… entertainment from movies and music… education through YouTube and photography blogs… friendship through Flickr and Skype… shopping for sundries and big-ticket items… tedium with bill-payment and troubleshooting… it is often near the centre of my universe be it work or play… and as such keeping it running in good order is as important to me as my other activities that together form a balanced lifestyle.
