Arachnophobia

Arachnophobia

Als ich ins Bett wollte saß dieses Prachtexemplar an der Wand. Und das Makro-Objektiv stand schon verführerisch auf dem Tisch… // As I wanted to go to bed this showpiece was sitting on the wall. And the macro lens alluringly stood on the table…

Der Staub sagt mir im übrigen das ich hinter dem Rechner mal wieder sauber machen sollte. // The dust on it incidentally tells me that I should clean the area behind my computer again.

1.28.11 – The importance of a good mouse is key for most digital artists, photographers, and designers. Logitech has served me well since as far back as I can even remember. The last brand before Logitech I honestly remember in my hands was an IBM one that came with the first computer my family ever got. I grew up playing around with commercial computers that had black and green screens and required line commands but this computer was a "personal computer", something all nerds lusted for. This was when color computer screens were considered some huge leap in computer technology. "Imagine the power required to produce all those colors!"

The clunky, large white mouse seemed so amazing at the time. Dust would collect in the tracks in a matter of weeks, making you loose control of your pointer. This then forced you to take the ball out and clean each little roller sensor. The cord would knock things over on your desk at times and you had 2 inputs (1 on a mac).

How far we have come. This mouse is ergonomically shaped to form to the human hand in a comfortable position. It wirelessly sends signals to the computer using a laser sensor that can work on relatively any surface and has 10 inputs. Just think what the future holds for us tech-heads if this kind of progress can be made with something as simple as a mouse in such a short amount of time.

The days of the mouse are numbered though. Touch screens and highly advanced motion sensors will become the new age of computer interfaces. What next? Full integration? Ok, I won’t get too carried away. Happy friday everyone.

1.27.11 – I have been wanting to shoot this for a long time now. This giant book was built to allow local graffiti artists to have their way with it. It always reminds me of what in high-school we called "The Rock." It was what I always supposed was originally a giant 4-foot-tall boulder from the mountains. The tradition was to have each class come and paint over the previous lower or upper classes markings. We would have friendly battles back and forth month to month.

Like an old giant tree, this huge blob had hundreds of layers from multiple generations (including my mother). I volunteered as an on-call firefighter for a couple year in high-school and one night we got called out to the station for a fire at the school. Turns out someone had covered in gas and lit the thing on fire. The flames were taller then the people on the scene. No damage was caused, but we always assumed it was a rival football team from the hills. The Rock still stands today with fresh coats of paint from new generations of students.

Rocket Man

Day 212 / 365
I waited over a year until I decided to get this Giottos Rocket air blower. It’s to get rid of dust that has slowly accumulated on my camera’s sensor and the back of my lenses due to my constant changing between lenses — it’s a natural part of life as a prime lens camera user.
Dust doesn’t show up on photos at a high aperture settings (e.g. f/1.4, f/1.8, f/4, etc) but do show up in low aperture settings (e.g. f/16, f/22, etc). It’s also pretty handy for blowing out dust from between the dust and food traps we call our computer keyboards! It’s also incredibly affordable: just under $10, so it definitely won’t break the bank like a new lens or camera certainly would! 😀

Back Story …………………………………..

Lets start off with my thanks to all of you who have kept
this project alive. I just read your kind comments in the last
photo that was uploaded 8 or 9 days ago.Much appreciated..;-)
The comments keep me energized and on track ………………………

So where was I you ask? .

Right here doing what I do and doing it double time.
It’s the computer that first went AWOL, then was KIA.
Without going into a bunch of tech stuff I’ll keep it simple
with out being 2 stupid while doing so….. KISS …..
Computer is old, as one part beaks it’s replaced.Sometimes
one part implodes right after another explodes. Takes awhile
to get parts out here.
Now, y’all remember my friend Mr SideCar ? Well he’s my saving-grace. He’s a computer guru and without him this
would’ve taken much much longer….Thank You Mr SideCar..;-)

There’s 4 photos in this short series and I’ll add a little bit under
each one but this is the main story here.

In this photo Little Bony Boy is just returning from the vet clinic.
He’s been running a very high fever for sometime and he needed help. He’s being treated for a blood parasite and will be taken to the clinic again tomorrow. This last 8 days he has put 1/8th kilo of weight back on…..

FYI: That’s our driveway…….
When it’s dry, it’s a dust bowl. When it rains, it’s a mud hole !
As this is taking place an old abandoned dog that lives in our compound dies from pneumonia. His name was Hippie Dog..

Before Bony Boy went in Tri-Pod was taken to the clinic keeping up on his series of injections. He’s getting the full monty .
In the last few days Tri-Pod has been in twice and will return on the 15th. Boney Boy has been in twice and will return tomorrow. Mama goes in on the 6th and Mr WeeNee on the 8th. Little Stubby is being scheduled to be spayed on the 10th.
If I can Mr Tuff Guy will start his inoculations around X’mass.
Others will follow suit if at all possible …. 😉

In between all the activity above they continue to receive monthly medications. Some of them daily medications.
And of course feeding on as regular ah schedule as I can do.

I’m starting to burn out and still want to add some dialog to the other photos.
So, on that note I bid you all a good night and see you in the morning, or there after ………….. ………………………. 😉

Thank You.
Jon&Crew.

Dirty Computer

Dirty Computer

I’m working on getting this machine back into presentable shape. What you see here is the aftereffects of being a smoker living for three years in a small apartment with little ventilation just a few blocks away from a major highway (I-5) in downtown Seattle, with _lots_ of dust, dirt, and crud in the air.

Ick.

Thankfully, the above conditions have changed (quitting smoking, moved to a new apartment that’s much cleaner). This morning I took the ‘puter out back of the building to blow it off with a couple cans of compressed air, and grabbed these shots before attacking it.
