Dusty motherboard macro

Dusty motherboard macro

Still brushing up, trying to claw my way back to being the shutterbug I was before.

Strobist: Canon 270 EX, camera left high, slightly behind subject; TTL EV -1 on flashcord.

Ooooh Pretty

Ooooh Pretty

Here’s a close-up of the Asus logo as it lights up on the motherboard. I think it is a nice touch. Brian says I’m a big nerd for typing that.

You can see the dust leftover from a poor vaccumn job.

Gigantic 250mm fan! Moves a significant amount of air into the case while running pretty quiet and looking looking sexy with the red LEDs. I added a 12 inch extension cable so that I can remove the side panel and not have to detach the fan

I recently had to trim off 1/8 on an inch from all 4 screw mounts so that this fan doesn’t sit so deep into the case. I bought a Zalman 9900 Max CPU Cooler and a few test fittings revealed that the top of the cooler was in contact with the fan when the side panel was closed. Now the fan is still seated far enough away from the dust filter in front and the CPU cooler behind it.

Most current setup 10-3-11:
Antec SLK3700 BQE Case

Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 CPU (2.66 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB)

MSI X48C Platinum Mobo

Crucial DDR3-1066 RAM 2GB x4

Ultra 750w PSU

Zalman 9900 MAX CPU FAN

WD VelociRaptor 300GB HDD

WD Caviar Black 1TB HDD x2

XFX Radeon HD 5770 GPU

ASUS 24 inch Widescreen LCD Monitor

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit (5.9 WEI)

Test Fit

Just made it! By the way, the fan is mounted ‘backwards’ in this photo just for a quick clearance test. I think I didn’t bring the bezel downstairs with me for the fitting.

Dust filter cut from a 1/4 inch thick piece of replacement air conditioner filter. Notice the thin black thread, it keeps the filter from from being sucked into the fan as it operates. A decent amount of light from the fan still manages to show through at night while catching a fair amound of dust.

14th July - Making Space

Opened up my PC’s casing to dust it (boy, was it clogged with dust) and to measure if a longer GPU will fit it.

Looks like it’ll be able to fit a 12" GPU!
