HAMMERHEAD Mk XX

HAMMERHEAD Mk XX

///DESIGNATION: HAMMERHEAD Mk XX
////ROLE: MOBILE WEAPONS PLATFORM

////NOTES:
The Hammerhead Mk XX provides mobile heavy weapon support to mercenary squads. The hardpoint on its back mounts a number of weapons, and the built in jump jets means it will always be in position. Advanced targeting sensors ignore dust, darkness, and other visibility interferences and computer interface jacks allow it to hack security systems.

////BUILD NOTES:
Despite being for the Rogue Stars skirmish game, this is just the Hammerhead I designed for Mobile Frame Zero. When I started putting together my NEXO Knights I saw I had a lot of blue and light grey pieces and wondered if I had enough to build a Hammerhead. I did. That little 1×1 plate with the lion insignia and the kite shield in blue sealed the deal.

I really like how this game out. I still have to make jump jet nozzles for the "wings" on the side of the head and design a weapon. I’ve paid for a heavy blaster rifle in the game, and need to model something appropriately big.

Resistance Ski Speeder (1)

Resistance Ski Speeder (1)

Took a break from speeder bike making so I could finally edit these pictures 😉

While I think the Ski Speeder’s design is a bit too close to real-world aircraft, I do like it quite a bit. It was certainly interesting to build in any case, I’ve never made a real-world aircraft before (or rather, anything so close to one) so it was strange to find myself building corsair-like wings and a tubular fuselage with a tail/rudder. I also wanted to explore some new-to-me Lego techniques to really push myself into unknown territory. This meant using stacks of technic liftarms for the wings which I was quite pleased with considering I usually avoid using technic in any significant way 🙂

I was planning on making a section of Crait’s surface and a build for the red dust but I soon realised I’d need to build quite a substantial amount to look right with the wide model. Instead I went for a stylised computer generated background which I almost prefer as it makes the model stand out a bit better.

A big thanks to majortom whose Ski speeder inspired quite a few bits and pieces of my own including: fence pieces on the engine section, technic wheel rim for the tail and of course the outline of his cockpit area which was the basis of my design. And thanks to my buddy Kit Bricksto who kindly gave his opinion on the model during its construction 🙂

Let me know what you think, feedback good or bad is appreciated as always 😀

Control Room and Memory Bank

Control Room and Memory Bank

"It’s time to go global! Once our construction worker minion, Dominic, dusts off the old control panel and installs a timeclock, our evil organization will be able to do missions anywhere in the world!"

When fully manned, the control room will serve as the mission headquarters for all of our operations off the island, and will even be able to slow the Forces of Justice from approaching our secret hideout lair! The control panel gathers information from geo regions, and the memory bank stores the information for a useful duration.

*The floor is just not quite up to par: the spacing is off and aesthetically doesn’t fit within the 6×6 stud modular grid. It might look better without the red "grout" lines, and would then certainly fit the grid! We’ll see.

Furniture to build: control panel, time clock, control station, communications array, stock market watchdog, schematics station, and a "big screen." That’s a lot, but we’ll need it to insure complete world domination!

the great chott salt flat (alternative night version)

the great chott salt flat (alternative night version)

I was there up all day and night. Coldness surrounded me quickly. You might remember the story I’ve told you earlier, if not, here it is. This time, however, you have to replace the suns with moons. I like to think the suns have just gone in sleep-mode, hence the yellow glow in the horizon.

This scene is build-up using a handful of Lego bricks, two flashlights as twin moons and a material that mimics the sand as a ground. This is bought from a grocery store near me. All this is laid on a table next to my computer and photographed. This is a photograph which is all in-camera minus the post-processing. No photoshop here, except the dust cleaning and some minor honing here and there.

Is this my first photo featuring panoramic aspect ratio 4:1? Well, if yes, it was about time to post something on this format. Also, I like to think, this would actually look good framed on a wall – what do you think?

WYVERN (HAMMERHEAD Mk XX)

WYVERN (HAMMERHEAD Mk XX)

////DESIGNATION: WYVERN (HAMMERHEAD Mk XX)

////NOTES:
The ‘Wyvern’ Hammerhead Mk XX provides mobile heavy weapon support to Azure Lion mercenary squads. Built in jump jets ensures its heavy blaster rifle will always be in position, while advanced targeting sensors ignore dust, darkness, and other visibility interferences, and a computer interface jacks allows it to hack security systems.

////BUILD NOTES:
An updated (and slightly blurry) version of the Hammerhead frame I originally made for Mobile Frame Zero: Rapid Attack. It now has a weapon and jump jets. I’m particularly proud of those jump jet packs (minifig town binoculars sandwiched between some 2×2 round plates), but I wish the 1×1 round plates didn’t stick out so much. Oh well.

Doctor who Series: Episode 1 – Fallen angel P6

Doctor who Series: Episode 1 - Fallen angel P6

"Blue one there, red one there…" the Doctor mumbled to himself. This was gonna be tricky. If it didn’t work, the angel would kill everyone in the room before they even realised it was there.

"…and finally, green one there!" he exclaimed, sonic-ing the last remaining wire into place.

Jackie was pacing. It was one of those things she did when she was nervous. Well, that and bite her thumbnail. "Are you absolutely sure this’ll work Doctor?"

"Yes, yes. 100%" he exhaled "well, maybe more like 98, 97 at minimum"

"Great" Frank said. His lack of confidence showing.

"Look, on the bright side" The Doctor replied "If it doesn’t work, the angel will kill us before we can say ‘oh god, we’re all going to die’. Well, I say that…". He trailed off. He was lying. A clever lie. A reassuring lie. He knew the angel wouldn’t kill them kindly. He could tell from his earlier encounter in the hallway. It was angry, and for good reason. Why was it chained up? What had happened to it’s wings? Questions bounced around the Doctors head like ping pong balls.

His thoughts were interrupted by the angel, still banging on the door. Bang Bang Bang. Yes, definitely angry.

"Right then" he said, lifting the Cryo-pod. "Frank, I’m going to need you to go to that computer and open the door. Jackie, I’m going to need you to fetch me that axe" He pointed towards the axe contained in a glass case affixed to the wall.

"And as for me…" he said to himself, placing the pod on the floor, a few metres from the door. He checked the pod. ‘Yep, that’ll have to do’

"Ok everyone" the Doctor bellowed, doing his best to exhume confidence. "Ready?"

"Ready!" replied Jackie and Frank in uniform.

"Ok. 3…2…1…Now!

Frank pushed the button. The door swung open. The angel was in the room. The Doctor pointed his screwdriver at the pod. Nothing happened. "C’mon you stupid thing" the Doctor exclaimed, shaking the screwdriver. He pointed again. Sparks flew from the end. The pod went off, freezing everything in its immediate vicinity. Including the angel.

"Jackie!" the Doctor shouted. Jackie threw the axe to the Doctor, who caught it, grinning. Swinging the axe above his head, he sent it crashing down, taking the angels outstretched arm. He swung again, this time shattering the thing entirely. It fell, reduced to a lumpy pile of dust and rubble.

Everything went quiet, the Doctors heavy breathing the only noise. Had he…enjoyed it? Taking a life in such gory fashion. Had the Time war really changed him? ‘No’ he reassured himself ‘if I hadn’t done this, everyone in this room would be dead, and a weeping angel would have been unleashed upon London’.

"Doctor?" Jackie said, reaching out and placing her hand on his shoulder. She was shocked. She could have sworn the Doctor was smiling whilst he hacked at the angel. ‘No. Must have been a trick of the light’

"You ok Frank?" she queried, looking to Frank.

"Y…yeah" he answered. It was clear he also wasn’t expecting that. It had to be done though, right?
