On the way back to camp after a walk in the bush – the haze is caused by dust blowing in all the way from the sahara through to eastern Guinea and beyond. The Simandou range is Guineas’ highest and is staggeringly beautiful. It is also made out of high grade iron ore and is worth a lot of money. Whilst developing countries grow and developed countries spend, the thirst for steel to build infrastructure, cars, computers and cameras continues… more and more places that were previously out of range will need to be exploited for their resources. This has the potential to bring huge revenue and development to the region. It also, as has happened to often in the past, has the potential to fuel corruption and degradation of society.
