Love is Happiness and Leads to Good Health

Love is Happiness and Leads to Good Health

No single human emotion has received as much attention, inspired so many actions or brought so much wonder and joy to our lives. In short, love is happiness.

Love makes the world go around, keeps us together and may even be responsible for some incredible benefits to your body as well. Not only lowered blood pressure and better stress management but fewer colds and shorter hospital stays.

Can it be true? It can, and there’s hard and fast science to back it up.

1) Married people make fewer visits to the doctor, and have shorter hospital stays than singles, this according to a review of studies by the Health and Human Services Department summarized in a June 2007 report.

2) Getting and staying married reduces depression in both men and women. Marriage also contributes to a decline in heavy drinking and drug abuse. This finding also comes from the June 2007 Health and Human Services Department report.

3) Happily married people had the best blood pressure readings, followed by singles. Unhappily married, as you might imagine, had the highest blood pressure according to a study appearing in the March 2008 Annals of Behavioral Medicine.

4) Loving, stable relationships provoke less activation of areas in the brain known to produce anxiety. Researchers at the University of New York at Stony Brook used functional MRI scans to evaluate areas of the brain and presented these findings at the 2008 Society for Neuroscience conference.

5) Loving, stable relationships make you less likely to complain of headaches or back pain. This too comes from the Stony Brook research, but holds even more weight because of a supportive CDC report on a study of more than 127,000 adults.

6) Social support, including loving relationships helps with stress management, making stressors easier to face.

7) Loving relationships can give the immune system a boost, making you less likely to get sick after exposure to a cold or flu virus. This according to research at Carnegie Melon University published in the November 2006 Psychosomatic Medicine.

8) The power of a positive relationship might help wounds heal as much as twice as fast as those of couples who are most hostile with each other. This comes from work in December 2005 out of Ohio State University Medical Center.

9) Married people live longer according to an ever-increasing body of work on the topic. Data from the National Health Interview Survey found those who’d never been married were 58% more likely to die younger than those who were married.

10) Love is more important that money. Research has shown that while happiness might come from income to a point, in the end it’s the quality of family relationships that brings lasting satisfaction. This bit of wisdom is based on work appearing in the June 2008 issue of the Journal of Family Psychology and relies on data that tracked married couples for more than a decade.

“There is very nice evidence that people who participate in satisfying, long-term relationships fare better on a whole variety of health measures,” reports Harry Reis, PhD, the co editor of the Encyclopedia of Human Relationships.

A key distinction is the love we’re talking about here isn’t the intense, passionate, can’t-live-without-you type of relationship but rather a calmer, enduring more stable form of love. Let’s face it, while the other type might be exciting and vital for a while it’s almost impossible to maintain.

Reis also points out that while many of the studies referenced here focused on married couples, it is the quality of the relationship, whether traditional marriage or deep love for a partner, parent or friend that delivers benefits to your overall health.

Love is happiness as any relationship that brings a feeling of being connected to another person, one where you feel respected and valued for yourself can bring not only good feelings and a sense of belonging, but better health as well.

The Power of Music – For Healing, Health and Happiness

The Power of Music – For Healing, Health and Happiness

The power of music is incredible. I have experienced so much happiness from music that I can’t imagine my life without it. I also passed that love onto my 4 kids and they have introduced me to an amazing amount of great music.

When I was a kid I had severe asthma and in those days ( late 50s ) they did not have medicine to relieve an attack. So I came up with my own remedy. If I was out playing and took an attack, I would make my way home. Get a stack of 45s ( small single song records ) and stack them on the spindle of the Hi-Fi. Then I would lay on my back on the floor and put the speakers on either side of my head and listen to music until I could totally relax my body and get over not being able to breath. That’s where my love for music came from. It definitely would heal an attack and bring me back to health.

As I grew, my love of music expanded. I ,of course, was a Beatles fan. My brother became a guitar player and that increased the amount of different music in the house. I was thrilled by all the new sounds and it seemed my asthma was more controllable. I started becoming more interested in the music and less introverted about my asthma. Don’t get me wrong. I still had terrible bouts where I would end up in the hospital in oxygen tents and on breathing apparatuses and of course my fair share of experimental drugs. I remember being in the hospital the summer when The Loving Spoonful came out with Summer in the City. I remember singing along with it together with 2 other guys my age in there.

Then my brother took me on the road with the band he was in!! This was incredible even though it was just in our local provinces. We had so much fun that my love for music grew a thousand fold. I met a lot of musicians and different people and actually got a reputation as a good person to have on the road. As a result another local band hired me and I stayed on the road for about 4 years. As a young man, I must say that it helped me grow in many, many ways. And still my love and knowledge of music and understanding of what it takes to get to the top grew.

Nowadays I work for the largest musical instrument sales and rental company in Canada as a band instrument repair technician. All day I repair and test flutes, trumpets, trombones, French horns, tubas, euphonium and saxes. I love this job!! I work with musicians and listen to music all day while I work. What could be better.

So the power of music for healing , health and happiness is something I think can help in an otherwise troubled world.

Street scene in Kabuyanda, the site of the Ruhiira Millennium Village. The Ruhiira cluster is situated in the Isingiro District of southwestern Uganda. The region is characterized as a highland region with elevations ranging between 1350m and 1850m above sea level. Road are extremely poor or non-existent, making travel between the villages and commercial centers, such as Mbarara, very difficult. As a result, connecting villagers to schools, clinics, markets, electricity, communications and local government is a significant challenge.

The Urban Warriors Way to Health, Wealth, Happiness and Good Looks by the Barefoot Doctor

The Urban Warriors Way to Health, Wealth, Happiness and Good Looks by the Barefoot Doctor

The Urban Warriors Way to Health, Wealth, Happiness and Good Looks by the Barefoot Doctor is certainly and interesting audio work. The title of this particular CD series is certainly one that will draw in people’s attention. And why would in not? It seemingly promises quite a lot. But, can it deliver? Well, it really is not up to the material to deliver as much as it is up to the listener to put the material on the CDs to good use. Thankfully, the Barefoot Doctor has produced a well organized and intelligent series that covers its subject matter in such a way it is pretty easy to follow the path to attaining your goals.

There are 8 complete “official” compact disks and 3 bonus ones in this set. The Urban Warriors Way to Health, Wealth, Happiness and Good Looks covers its very diverse subject matter from a variety of perspectives. This is a good thing because a large and diverse crowd of people will be listening to the material found on the compact disks. No matter what you are looking for there is something on these CDs to meet your needs and expectations. Could you really ask for anything more in a self-help audio series?

The material in these CDs may be newly organized and presented but the theories are thousands of years old. That is a good thing because we have two millenniums to examine how well the material works. The material in the CDs is rooted in the classic Taoist concept of “The Way”. Such principles are based on sound theories that can guide you to making the right decisions in life. And yes, these decisions will help you improve your overall wellness, financial situation, and personal happiness. While many self-help systems claim the ability to deliver these outcomes, they falter when it comes to the actual deliver. Since The Urban Warriors Way to Health, Wealth, Happiness and Good Looks by the Barefoot Doctor is based on The Tao, it can certainly deliver on expectations.

Basic Taoist theories of visualization and meditational concentration are employed to help you attain your goals. Some may not believe these classic methods can help you modify the way in which you approach achieving your goals. To be skeptical of these methodologies is to be shortsighted. These strategies do work and have worked for thousands of years. You just need to learn how to apply them to your situation in life.

How can you apply them? The answer to this is found in The Urban Warriors Way to Health, Wealth, Happiness and Good Looks by the Barefoot Doctor. All you have to do would be to listen to the words on the compact disks. Listen and re-listen to the material time and time again. You will be pleased with the results. Your whole life may change…for the better.

There are many self-help and self-improvement CDs on the market. Few of them, however, can match the quality of The Urban Warriors Way to Health, Wealth, Happiness and Good Looks by the Barefoot Doctor. Consider this compact disk series a must have for those that are fans of the genre.
