Dead MacBook Fan

Dead MacBook Fan

After quite some time with Washing Machine Sounds coming out of my MacBook and continous overheating of the CPU I finally had to clean the fan. Still not much better…

After buying a expensive new fan (RS 15000 ~ EUR 20) it’s working like a charm again.

Gigantic 250mm fan! Moves a significant amount of air into the case while running pretty quiet and looking looking sexy with the red LEDs. I added a 12 inch extension cable so that I can remove the side panel and not have to detach the fan

I recently had to trim off 1/8 on an inch from all 4 screw mounts so that this fan doesn’t sit so deep into the case. I bought a Zalman 9900 Max CPU Cooler and a few test fittings revealed that the top of the cooler was in contact with the fan when the side panel was closed. Now the fan is still seated far enough away from the dust filter in front and the CPU cooler behind it.

Test Fit

Just made it! By the way, the fan is mounted ‘backwards’ in this photo just for a quick clearance test. I think I didn’t bring the bezel downstairs with me for the fitting.

Dust filter cut from a 1/4 inch thick piece of replacement air conditioner filter. Notice the thin black thread, it keeps the filter from from being sucked into the fan as it operates. A decent amount of light from the fan still manages to show through at night while catching a fair amound of dust.

HTPC (AZZA/CypberpowerPC Case) Short Review

HTPC (AZZA/CypberpowerPC Case) Short Review

I originally obtained this case from Cyberpower PC which they call it the Zeus Mini. It is a great small form factor case, but I feel that it does not do to well in cooling the components.

Pros:
It looks cool with it’s exterior lights on the front with the brushed metal face.

Cons:
Working with this case was very difficult due to my fat pudgy hands and inexperience. I had to remove all the fans that are placed over the components before installing a long 292mm Gigabyte GTX 770 Video Card. The power source for the video card were touching the ceiling of the case causing slight bending. Wire management was very difficult and it was very messy looking to my taste. The top of the case has some air holes but is not dust proof. The front IO has only one usb 2.0 and one 3.0.
