reality distortion field

reality distortion field

Reality Distortion Field (RDF) is a term coined by Bud Tribble at Apple Computer in 1981, to describe company co-founder Steve Jobs’ charisma and its effects on the developers working on the Macintosh project.

Tribble said that the term came from Star Trek.

Later the term has also been used to refer to perceptions of Job’s keynote speeches (or "Stevenotes") by observers and devoted users of Apple computers and products.

The RDF was said by Andy Hertzfeld to be Steve Jobs’ ability to convince himself and others to believe almost anything with a mix of charm, charisma, bravado, hyperbole, marketing, appeasement and persistence.

RDF was said to distort an audience’s sense of proportion and scales of difficulties and made them believe that the task at hand was possible.

This is a drawing done in simple manically pencil, a red colored pencil and a china marker + some work with elements 8 after scanning it to my computer. it ended up with a bit of impurity and shading and such that I kept in. I really started to like its impurity, I think it gives it a old photographic look and or movie look. something old and decayed . A elegantly 1920s skull is fitted fashionably with a Top-hat, the skull is also fitted with electronics and a Rocket Engine. the skull fly’s foreword shooting out its eyeball , below its hand fly’s with it flying and shooting.I also tried to incorporate a elegance in the skull flying machine.

an old keyboard used to enter patient records sits covered in dust in one of the abandonded accounting offices at the central state hospital in indiana. the room i found this in was filled with computer parts from 20 to 30 years ago.

The seasons of our lives unfold

The seasons of our lives unfold

…if we will them to or not.

I have perfect vision. That is, I thought I did until recently. When I tried to dust three different computer screens this week without an improvement of the text’s blurriness, I realized I needed to consider that my vision is declining. I had noticed some issues with books, but wrote that off to being tired. It seems the seasons of my own life are unfolding, too.

This house is located in Clay County, Iowa. It is deteriorating quickly, and it’s presence right off a major state highway on the same property as a cool barn and attached silo have drawn a lot of flickr attention to it. In fact, I received an email on flickr with a link to a ‘rural exploration’ video set at this location.

I know a range of motivations draw people to scrumptious morsels of rural abandonment…but my motivation is not to stir my fears or the fear of anyone else. I am interested in the investment made by people many years ago in this property and others like it, in this rural area that promised a way of life and a home for their families. This, and curiosity about their lives…their hopes and dreams that were woven in the building of their houses. I guess I don’t mind that others are motivated differently…it’s just not my thing!
