I’ve sort of given up on landscape photography here in West Hawaii this winter. Living near an active volcano, the air quality can suck, with a lot of haze. Few real sunsets, and the ones I’ve photographed, I’d have to sprinkle a lot of computer fairy dust on to pretend they are something special.
East Hawaii is another story – air quality isn’t an issue, and the rain forest, fern grottos, rivers, and waterfalls, all get my juices flowing. I can waste hours, rock hopping with the tripod, up and down the same 100 yards of stream.

So I spent the majority of today, tearing apart my computer and giving it a thorough cleaning. One of the main reasons was my video card was starting to idle at around 70 C. Rather than simply rely on compressed air, I took the stock cooler apart and completely broke it down. As you can see, the back of the heatsink had quite a bit of dust built up in it. I also used rubbing alcohol to completely clean the fan too. Thankfully it all worked out as I’m using PC again and my idle temps have dropped back down to 45-50 with the fan on quiet.
