One monday morning, I got a call from a friend of mine at the campus IT center, saying I should check some Macs which were going to be thrown away, including a gray tower. I was thinking that by gray he meant a beige tower (I was hoping a G3 minitower, to fit nicely with my G3 desktop I got some weeks ago), but instead it was a G4 "Digital Audio", complete with a 17” Apple Studio Display.
I also brought a pair of 6400/180’s (I thought one might be broken, but they both work perfectly!). Everything works properly, and the G4 is the high-end 733 MHz model. I plan to upgrade it a little and it will probably serve as my brother’s computer for some time! (I’ve been checking prices, and it will cost me about 20-25 euros to upgrade its RAM to 1.25 GB and add a USB 2.0 card – not bad!
The Studio Display will need some cleaning, though – it started making strange noises when I turned it on (although the image was perfect!), it is probably filled with dust inside the case…
I really don’t know what’s going on with people right now… especially in a middle of an economic crisis, and they’re throwing away perfectly functioning computers? I really don’t get it!
