Dust filter cut from a 1/4 inch thick piece of replacement air conditioner filter. Notice the thin black thread, it keeps the filter from from being sucked into the fan as it operates. A decent amount of light from the fan still manages to show through at night while catching a fair amound of dust.
I recently had to trim off 1/8 on an inch from all 4 screw mounts so that this fan doesn’t sit so deep into the case. I bought a Zalman 9900 Max CPU Cooler and a few test fittings revealed that the top of the cooler was in contact with the fan when the side panel was closed. Now the fan is still seated far enough away from the dust filter in front and the CPU cooler behind it.
