It used to play games. Now it over heats and shuts off. Last time this happened it was because the thermal pad on the GPU dried up. (There was also a dust ball the size of a hamster in the heat vent thanks to a piece of tape that HP had used to cover a gap.) So I suspect the arctic silver is toast. You have to completely take the damn thing apart to get to the GPU and the heat sink. This might take a while.
