Dust is poison to most electronics. While not directly harmful like water, dust clogs up fans which lets heat build up. Dust also insulates from natural heat dissipation, and heat will kill computer chips very quickly. This is a shot from inside a DVR (Digital Video Recorder) which I’m performing some hard drive maintenance on.
If you leave your computer on the floor or worse yet on carpet, you should open it up and see if it is a dust magnet – and clean it out if it is.
